Heidenberger, Donald G. “Heidi” of Flushing, age 87, died Sunday, December 29, 2013. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, at United in Christ Lutheran Church, 6330 Corunna Road, Flint. Pastor Steven Stahlhut will officiate. A private burial will be at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the service. A Lions Remembrance Service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Flushing Lions Club or United in Christ Lutheran Church.
Don was born in Flint, MI on August 25, 1926, the son of Henry and Elsie (Barthel) Heidenberger. He proudly served on the USS Carteret and the USS Mellena in the Navy during World War II. He married Goldie W. “Nonie” Hanson on August 14, 1954, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Midland. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2005. Don was an Engineering Instructor at GMI, retiring in 1963 and a General Supervisor at Buick, retiring in 1982. He was an active member of the United in Christ Lutheran Church, the Flushing Lion’s Club, the Flushing Senior Center and the Retired Men’s Fellowship of Greater Flint.
Don is survived by: two daughters, Evelyn and husband Bruce Askwig of Hubbard Lake, Mary Lou and husband Gary Hopkins of Avilla, IN; six grandchildren, Adena and husband Ted Tullar of Goodrich, Jonathan Askwig of Houghton, Michael Askwig of Hubbard Lake, Kirsten and husband Jarod Lane, Annika Stetler and Sean Hopkins, all of Avilla, IN; great-grandchildren, Richelle La Barge, Trenton Tullar, Troy Tullar, Trista Tullar, Ella Lane, Grayson Lane, Delilah Stetler; sister, Bonnie and husband Morley TerBush of Flushing; brother, Clarence and wife Jean Heidenberger of Fenton; special companion, Joyce Nichols of Flushing; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jim Heidenberger.
