McCabe, Michael T. of Flushing, age 51, died unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism, Monday, February 18, 2013 at his home. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Fr. Frederick Taggart will officiate. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass, Saturday at the church. A Scripture Service will be 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Family Service Agency-Foster Grandparent Program.
Michael was born in Flint, Michigan on February 14, 1962, the son of Thomas and Wilma (Davidson) McCabe. He was a 1980 graduate of Flushing High School where he played and earned Varsity letters in tennis, golf and hockey. He was the Captain of the tennis team. Michael graduated from Central Michigan University with a BA in Business/Marketing. During summer vacations, he sold books for the Southwestern Co., winning the top salesperson award his last year. Michael also attended Gordon Cromwell Theology Seminary for three years, during which time he was involved in mission trips with his church to Pakistan and Haiti. After sustaining severe body burns in 1990, Mike became active in the Phoenix Society, a national support organization for burn survivors. For the past 10 years, Michael worked for the Genesee County Family Service-Foster Grandparent Program. He also worked for Independent Home Care of Michigan, assisting families with special needs. Michael enjoyed playing golf, fantasy football, fishing, movies, card games, and socializing with everyone.
He is survived by parents, Thomas and Wilma McCabe; brother, Patrick and wife Mary McCabe; nieces, Kelly, Katie, Sarah and their family pet, Max; aunts and uncles, Buddy and Judy Davidson, Bryan Davidson, Donald and Ann McCabe, James McCabe and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, John T. McCabe and a baby sister.
